info
This ginger should be watered deeply every week or two once it’s established. It doesn’t want to ever dry out completely. Plants in pots will require more frequent watering.

Growing Notes

Plants in colder areas will grow back from the roots in spring after winter freezes but won’t bloom.
Because they bloom on last season’s growth, plants in mild, warmer areas, like the coast and coastal valleys of Southern California and favored warm belts in Central California, are more likely to produce flowers.
Prune older stems at the base as the foliage becomes tatty or yellow. Groom spent flowers if unsightly.
Fertilize for more vigorous growth.

Special Interest

Most commonly seen with pinstripe variegation, this selection has mostly green foliage.

Fleshy, ginger-like rhizomes easily dug and divided. Divide in late spring for best results or anytime until late fall.

Worth a try in full shade with ample moisture in the low desert.
